🏡 "From Basement to Backyard: NYC Says Yes to Tiny Homes!" 🛠️🚪

Get ready, NYC homeowners — your basement might just become the city’s next hot address! 🏙️✨ Mayor Eric Adams and the “City of Yes” crew have dropped a massive proposal that could turn basements, backyards, garages, and even that spooky shed into official, legal homes — aka ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units). But before you go installing chandeliers in the laundry room, the new rules come with safety strings: two exits, no flood zones, and a water sensor in every room (yup, every room💧🚨). And if your new backyard bungalow isn’t street-visible? Slap on a sign in bold red letters: “ADU in rear” ➡️.

With plans to unleash over 100,000 new homes in the next 15 years, the city’s aiming to make the housing crisis a thing of the past — one tiny unit at a time. 🏘️💥 Homeowners might even get up to $395K from the “Plus One ADU” pilot (cha-ching! 💸) — but there’s an income cap, so no mansion-lords allowed. Got thoughts on all this? The Department of Buildings is hosting a virtual town hall on August 18 — because in true NYC fashion, everyone’s got an opinion, especially when it’s about the basement. 🗣️🛋️
