🌟 Lea Mendelsohn: The Matchmaker Who "Doesn't Matchmake" 😉 🌟 |
Lea Mendelsohn doesn’t technically consider herself a shadchan—she just likes to dabble a bit. You know, like that one friendly housewife who seems to know everyone and somehow just knows who should be with who. 💖 In her not matchmaking career, she’s “only” made seven shidduchim (no big deal, right? 😎). |
She insists she’s not a pro—after all, she hasn’t hit the 20 or 30-match milestone like some of those so-and-so’s or whomever-and-whomevers out there. But let’s be real: Lea’s made quite the impact in the shidduch world! 🌍✨ |
According to Lea, anyone can make a match—neighbors, shul members, even two people bumping carts at the grocery store! 🛒 But let’s face it, Lea’s dabbling is next-level. Her secret? A genuine understanding of people, a laid-back vibe, and a total lack of pushiness. 🧘♀️ She listens without judgment and works with everyone—no matter their level of religiosity, age, background, or even disabilities. 🤗 |
If someone pops into her mind, she’s all in—no barriers, no second-guessing. Because when it comes to making matches, Lea’s got that magic touch! ✨💕 |

⚡Marine Park High-Voltage: Community Sparks Fly Over New Battery Facility! ⚡🏘️ |
Here's the scoop in an electrifying, emoji-packed recap! ⚡😄 |
At a fiery community board meeting in Marine Park, residents were buzzing with concerns about a new battery storage facility! 🏠🔋 NineDot Energy, already rocking a battery system in the Bronx, plans to install a 14-megawatt setup with Tesla Supercharger packs at 2138-52 Flatbush Ave. 🚀🌱 They say it's a key move to ditch fossil fuels and power a greener future! |
But the community wasn’t too thrilled. Some locals suggested relocating the facility to spots like the old Toys R' Us or Floyd Bennett Field 📍🤔, but experts quickly zapped those ideas—those areas are flood zones and would need expensive elevation fixes! 🌊🚫 |
Emotions ran high 😤🔥—residents felt left out of the decision-making and even compared the project to Chernobyl! 😱 One neighbor worried about potential battery fires (and yes, they mentioned incidents in Moss Landing and Warwick 😬🔥). FDNY heroes were on hand, assuring everyone that if things ever got too hot, “just lots of water” would keep things cool 🚒💦. |
In short, it's a power-packed debate of community trust, safety, and progress. Stay tuned as Marine Park navigates this electrifying challenge! 💥😁 |

Purim Guidance from the Rabbi of Kingsway Jewish Center [reprinted] |
I. Machatzit HaShekel: The Half-Shekel |
We customarily contribute three "half" coins to commemorate the annual half-shekel donation during the times of the Mikdash. A Machazit HaShekel plate will be available at Mincha in shul on Taanis Esther. Procedure: Each person makes a contribution to the plate; acquires the coins by picking them up; then completes the procedure by donating the coins back to the plate. |
II. Taanit Esther |
The fast starts Thursday at 5:59 AM and ends after Megillat Esther. |
Medical Issues: There are medical exceptions on Taanit Esther. Please contact the rabbi, ideally in advance, to discuss any questions. |
Davening: One who is not fasting omits Aneinu. One says Avinu Malkeinu, even if not fasting, and even if davening alone. At minchah, we do not say Avinu Malkeinu nor Tachanun. |
III. Al HaNisim |
Purim begins Thursday Night. We recite Al HaNisim in Birkat HaMazon and Shemoneh Esreih, both on Purim night and during Purim day. We do not recite Al HaNisim on Shushan Purim. One who forgets Al HaNisim in Birkat HaMazon or Shemoneh Esrei does not go back or repeat the prayers. |
IV. Megillat Esther |
The mitzvah is to hear the entire reading, both at night and during the day, beginning to end. For the daytime reading, we keep in mind that the Shehechiyanu berachah applies for all of the day’s mitzvot, including Megillah, the Purim feast, Matanot la’evyonim and Mishloach manot. |
V. Seudat Purim: When Purim is a Friday |
Option A: Ideally, one should start the Purim feast before Halachic midday, which is 1:05 PM this year. One should complete the meal by 4:00 PM. This timing is meant to avoid ruining our appetite for the Shabbat meal that evening. If that is not possible, one should do their best to conduct Seuda as early in the afternoon as possible. |
Option B: There is another more complex option, known as "pores mapah umkadesh," which one may use if an earlier seuda is not feasible. This involves beginning the meal before candle lighting and concluding on Shabbos. For the details of this halachik procedure, please contact the rabbi. |
Drinking alcohol: The Talmud says that as part of the Purim feast, one must “levasumei” until he does not know the difference between "Cursed is Haman" and "Blessed is Mordechai.” Please note that the halacha prohibits any drinking (Purim or anytime) which either is dangerous for the drinker (or others) or leads to a state in which one loses control to the point of violating a mitzvah and/or creating a Chilul Hashem. A moderate halachik path is to drink a bit more than usual at the Seuda, and then fulfill the directive by taking a nap after the meal. |
Caution: Adults in the presence of young children should be extremely careful when drinking on Purim. Immature children cannot differentiate between when adults are in control and when they are not, cannot comprehend the dangers associated with alcohol, cannot accept the idea that adults can do what children are not permitted to do, and cannot understand the difference between Purim and the rest of the year. |
Matanot La’Evyonim: Gifts for the needy |
The mitzvah is to give gifts to at least two needy people on Purim day. You may contact the office or donate online. Monies will be distributed in Israel on Purim day. |
Mishloach Manot: Giving portions of food |
We distribute gifts of food to each other on Purim day, as was done on the original Purim, in order to increase our sense of amity, comity, and unity, and also to ensure that others are able to enjoy a Purim feast. (Two foods to at least one recipient) The food should be ready to eat and a beverage (other than water) is acceptable as one of the items. |
Mishloach manot should be sent by husbands and wives, and children who are old enough to understand that they are performing a mitzvah should send their own mishloach manot. |
While mishloach manot is a beautiful mitzvah, if funds are limited, it is better to increase one's matanot la'evyonim expenditures at the expense of more elaborate mishlaoch manot. |

Halacha |
📖Kitzur ShulchanAruch Siman 72 📖 |
You should prepare choice meats, and fish, and fine wine according to your means. It is a mitzvah to eat fish at every Shabbos meal if it agrees with you. But if it does not agree with you or if it isn't pleasing to your taste you should not eat it, for the Shabbos was given for enjoyment and not for discomfort. You should sharpen the knives, for this is also included in honoring the Shabbos. You should put the house in order, make the beds, and cover the table with a tablecloth. The table should remain covered the entire Shabbos. Some people are meticulous to spread out two tablecloths. You should rejoice in the coming of the Shabbos. Imagine how you would put the house in order in honor of the arrival of a dear and distinguished person, all the more so [should you exert yourself] in honor of the Shabbos Queen. In some places they make meat pies, also called mulyesa for the Shabbos evening meal, in remembrance of the Manna which lay as if in a box, dew on the bottom and dew on top. On Erev Shabbos, you should taste the food that was cooked for Shabbos. |
Even a poor Jew should endeavor and make every effort to delight in the Shabbos. He should economize all week in order to have enough money to honor the Shabbos. And if he doesn't have money he should borrow, even if he must give security, in order to provide the needs of Shabbos. Regarding this, our Rabbis of blessed memory said, "My children, borrow for My sake and I will repay you." On Rosh Hashana all of man's needs are apportioned for him except his expenses for Shabbos and Yom Tov, for if he spends more for Shabbos and Yom Tov, Heaven adds more to his (allotment). If he is in extremely poor financial straits, our Rabbis of blessed memory said, "Make your Shabbos simple (like the weekdays) rather than depend on people." Nevertheless, if at all possible, he should at least try to do something to honor the Shabbos, even a minor thing, like [purchasing] small fish or the like. If something is sent to you to eat on Shabbos, you should eat it on Shabbos and not leave it for a weekday. |
