🎉 Mazel Tov, BMF! A New Era Begins! 🎉 |
Big news out of Flatbush — the Bais Hamedrash of Flatbush (BMF) has officially welcomed its brand new Rav, and the excitement is real! 🕍📣 Last Wednesday, the announcement was made: Rabbi Avrohom Lawrence will be stepping into this esteemed role. A proud talmid of the Mirrer Yeshiva and a disciple of the legendary Rav Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l, Rav Lawrence brings a deep well of Torah knowledge and humility to the BMF community. |
But wait — the story gets even more inspiring! His father, R’ Shimon Lawrence, is no stranger to leadership himself, having held rabbinic positions across the globe — from Australia to Canada to sunny Florida 🌴. Currently, he serves as a Rav in Staten Island. Rav Avrohom is married to Ita Lawrence (née Eisenberg), a native of Chicago and a devoted school psychologist. Oh — and she just happens to be a granddaughter of R’ Reuven Feinstein! 🧬📚 |
And now, a special update for this Shabbos! 📅 After Mincha at 6:20 PM, Rav Lawrence will be giving a Pirkei Avos shiur, so come early. Even more exciting: He officially begins full-time as Rav on Parshas Korach — a parsha all about leadership, no less! |
Mark your calendars — the official inauguration is set for after Labor Day, with a festive Shabbos kiddush and an inaugural dinner right after summer’s end. Rumor has it that both Rav Reuven Feinstein and Rav Shimon Lawrence may be there for the inaugural dinner to celebrate this exciting new chapter. BMF is clearly gearing up for something big — and we can't wait to see what’s next! 🥳🍷🍽 |
So here’s to new beginnings, meaningful leadership, and a community rooted in Torah, warmth, and growth. Welcome, Rav Lawrence — Flatbush is lucky to have you! 🌟📖✡️ |
🏡✨ Victorian Flatbush May Get Even Fancier! ✨🏡 Two Charming Suburban Gems on Track for Landmark Status |
Hold onto your gables, Flatbush fans — two of Brooklyn’s most picturesque neighborhoods might be getting the red carpet treatment from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission! 🏛️ The beautifully preserved Beverley Square West and Ditmas Park West — home to 247 storybook-style houses built between 1894 and 1910 — are on their way to possibly becoming official NYC historic districts! We're talking Queen Anne towers, Colonial Revival porches, and even a dash of Tudor flair — it’s like Pinterest meets PBS's This Old House, right in the heart of Brooklyn. 🏠🌀 |
So how did these gingerbread-trimmed beauties come to be? Well, developers like Thomas Benton Ackerson (1856–1924) and Lewis H. Pounds (1860-1947) had big dreams and even bigger blueprints. They hired top Brooklyn architects, renamed the streets to sound all fancy (farewell numbered blocks, hello Marlborough and Rugby!), and carved out cozy, tree-lined streets with homes fit for turn-of-the-century trendsetters. 💼📐 And though these neighborhoods faced ups and downs (hello, 1970s suburban flight 😬), the Brownstone Revival brought them roaring back — and now, tours, photo ops, and maybe even landmark plaques are on the horizon! 🎉📸 |
Get ready for a preservation showdown: the Commission has calendared the proposal, and a public hearing is coming soon. So whether you're a fan of Palladian windows, shingle-style serenity, or just love a good neighborhood glow-up, stay tuned — history might just be getting a new home address in Victorian Flatbush! 🏘️🕰️ |

🎉 💸 STAR-Struck Summer! Tax Relief Checks Are Coming to a Mailbox Near You! 💸 🎉 |
Big news for New Yorkers! ☀️ This summer and fall, nearly 3 million homeowners and seniors are getting a sweet surprise from the State — tax relief checks ranging from $350 to $1,500 💵 through the beloved STAR Program 🌟. If your household income is under $500K, you could see $350–$600, and if you're a senior with income under $107,300, you could rake in $700–$1,500. Some lucky folks already got the benefit as a property tax exemption — the rest of us? Checks are dropping starting next week 📬 and rolling out all summer long! |
⏰ Want to know when your windfall is arriving? Track it like a hawk 🦅 at ny.gov/STAR, or go full 2025 and sign up for direct deposit 🏦 — no more mailbox stalking or check-cashing chores. The new Homeowner Benefit Portal lets you enroll, update, and manage your STAR benefits with just a few clicks. Don’t snooze — if you enroll less than 15 days before your area’s checks go out, you’ll be stuck waiting until next year’s direct deposit run. So go click that portal and get your ⭐️ STAR money faster! |
💬 Acting Tax Commissioner Amanda Hiller says it best: “We want every eligible homeowner to take advantage of this.” So whether you’re in Brooklyn, Buffalo, or the ‘burbs, don’t miss your chance to get a little extra cash for back-to-school, that overdue AC upgrade, or — let’s be honest — pizza and a Mets game 🍕⚾. |
📱🚗 Say Hello to Your New Digital Wallet Buddy: NY Mobile ID! 🚀🗽 |
New Yorkers, get ready to ditch the plastic and go digital! 🥳📲 The New York Mobile ID (MiD) just turned one year old 🎂—and it’s already racked up more than 245,000 downloads! This snazzy smartphone version of your driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID is totally secure, totally voluntary, and totally free for iOS and Android users. Whether you’re catching a flight at JFK ✈️, or verifying your age for that spicy extra-hot wings challenge 🌶️—MiD’s got your back! |
No, it’s not just a photo of your ID (nice try, screenshot warriors 👀). It’s a fully encrypted, consent-based system. Just tap “Share ID,” scan a QR code, and voilà—only the info you approve is shared. No handovers. No prying eyes. And even if your phone goes missing (yikes 😬), your MiD self-destructs on that device like a Mission Impossible message. 🔒💥 |
With TSA, bars, and even restaurants now on board—and more states joining the digital ID revolution—MiD is putting the “smart” in smartphone. Want in? Just head to Google Play or the App Store and make your license mobile, mighty, and modern. 💪📱✨ |
