You ride wrong, you ride into court. 👩‍⚖️ That’s right: minor cycling violations like blowing stop signs or hopping curbs could now earn you a criminal court summons, not a basic traffic ticket. 🧾❌

The city's rolling this out in hotspots like Broadway, Fulton, and Grand Street—armed with 311 complaints and a mission to tame wild mopeds and e-scooters. 🛵 But not everyone's ringing their bike bell in agreement. 🚨⚖️ Critics warn this could jam the courts and hit hardest on delivery workers just trying to get your tacos to you hot. 🌮😬 With scooters still a fraction of pedestrian injury causes, many are wondering: is this public safety or pedal-powered profiling? 🤔

“No Batteries!” chants, passionate protests, and a Dutchman in the hot seat—Gravesend’s got energy! 😤📢

It was charged from the start—literally. Seconds after the Pledge of Allegiance wrapped at the Community Board 15 meeting in Gravesend, neighbors launched into a full-blown protest against a proposed lithium-ion battery storage site. With chants of “No batteries!” echoing through the room, local parents, residents, and activists lit up the meeting like a short-circuited power line. Enter Dirk van Ouwerkerk, the VP from renewable energy firm Soltage, who did his best to calm the crowd, apologize for the rollout missteps, and explain how the site on McDonald Ave would be “safe” and "green." 🌱😅

But the crowd wasn’t buying what Dirk was selling. Concerns about fires, toxic fumes, property values, and even internet outages sparked one tense moment after another. 🤯🔥 When Dirk mentioned it could take two hours for someone to respond to a battery emergency, the crowd nearly exploded like… well, a lithium-ion cell under stress.
