🗽 Civic Spotlight: Keeping You Informed🗽

🦃🚛 Sanitation Collection Changes for Thanksgiving 🗑️

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that in observance of Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2025, there will be NO trash, curbside composting nor recycling collection on the holiday.

Residents who normally receive Thursday trash or curbside composting collection may place their material at the curb Thursday evening, for collection beginning Friday.
Residents who normally receive Thursday paper and metal/glass/plastic/carton recycling collection should hold their material for a week, and place their items out at curbside Wednesday, December 3 for pickup on Thursday, December 4.
Residents may experience collection delays, as is common after holidays.

🦃🚫🧹 Thanksgiving: Alternate Side Parking Suspensions🚗

On Thanksgiving Day, both Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules and parking meters are suspended in New York City.

Alternate Side Parking (ASP): Street cleaning rules are suspended, so you will not get a ticket for failing to move your car for street cleaning on this holiday.

The suspension lasts for the entire holiday, from midnight the day before until midnight the day of.

  • Parking Meters: You do not need to pay meters on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Alternate Side Parking (ASP): Street cleaning rules are suspended, so you will not get a ticket for failing to move your car for street cleaning on this holiday.
  • Other Restrictions: You must still follow "No Stopping Anytime," "No Standing Anytime," and other permanent parking restrictions, as these are not suspended even on major holidays.
Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving, is not an official holiday.

All City government offices, except for Department of Education (DOE) and Social Security offices, are open.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are in effect. All other regulations, including parking meters, also remain in effect.

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and courts are also open.

Post offices are open and mail delivery follows a regular schedule.

🚰 Brooklyn Gets the Lead Out — With Extra Sparkle! 🗽💦😎

Big news, Brooklyn! Governor Hochul just dropped $66 million 💸💸 to yank out those crusty, century-old lead pipes lurking under New York — including a sweet $14 million just for parts of Brooklyn and the Bronx. That’s right: your tap water is about to go from “🤢 questionable soup” to “💧 artisanal hydration.” The LIFT program (which sounds like a trendy Dumbo start-up) is picking up the tab so you don’t get slapped with a surprise “lead pipe removal” surcharge on top of your already-traumatizing rent. 😅🏙️

Lead pipes are basically the plumbing version of that one uncle who still thinks MySpace is cutting-edge tech: ancient 🧓🕰️, corroding 🔧⚠️, and absolutely overdue for retirement 🛑🚫. So the state is stepping in to make sure families from Buffalo to BROOKLYN can finally drink water without wondering if they’re also drinking… infrastructure from 1912. 🫠💀 But now? Clean water for everyone! 🌈💙🥤 Priority goes to underserved communities, which — let’s be honest — includes a whole lot of buildings in Brooklyn older than your grandmother’s kugel recipe.

So raise your glass (filtered, obviously) 🥂🚰 and toast to cleaner water, fewer surprise contaminants, and one rare moment where New Yorkers everywhere can agree the government actually did something good.🙌🗽💙
