🚧🌉 Verrazzano Ramps on the Move: Brooklyn’s Big Bridge Shuffle! 🛠️😎

Brooklyn, buckle up — your beloved Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is officially checking into construction spa day… for the next few years. 💅🚧 At a recent Community Board 10 meeting, the MTA unveiled plans to shuffle the Belt Parkway exit ramps from left to right (finally ending decades of “Wait—WHY is the exit on this side?” panic 🙃). Expect wider shoulders, smoother surfacing, fewer joints, and, dare we dream… less collision chaos. The MTA even promised transparent noise barriers — because nothing says “Brooklyn glow-up” like letting you see the traffic that’s no longer screaming at 95 decibels. 😄🔇

And it’s not just the bridge getting a makeover — John J. Carty Park is leveling up too! 🎉🏀 Think adult fitness area (hello new year’s resolutions 💪), skate park (please wear helmets 🛹😅), walking track, turf field, performance area, and courts for handball, basketball, and even shuffleboard… because grandma’s got game too. 👵🔥 Construction kicks off next year, with ramps rolling out by 2029 and the park reopening just in time for your future grandkids’ graduation photos. 🎓🌳 Until then, brace for construction noise — minus jackhammers after 6 p.m., because even the MTA knows Brooklynites have limits. 😴🛌

❄️🛷 Where to Go Sledding in Brooklyn: Winter Fun on Every Hill! 🗽🌨️

When snow blankets Brooklyn, the borough transforms into a sledder’s paradise! From the thrilling slopes of Fort Greene Park’s Monument Hill (the hill near the Prison Ship Martyrs monument) to the breathtaking harbor views at Sunset Park and Owl’s Head Park, there’s no shortage of exciting runs for adventurers of all ages. Highland Park offers overlooked, wide-open sledding with stunning skyline and ocean views, while Prospect Park’s iconic hills draw families from every neighborhood for classic winter fun.

Looking for something quieter or more family-friendly? Lincoln Terrace Park and McKinley Park deliver great slopes with fewer crowds and helpful amenities like playgrounds and restrooms. For epic rides near the waterfront, Shore Road Park and Hillside Park pair fast descents with postcard-perfect scenery of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York Harbor. Just grab your sled, bundle up, and let Brooklyn’s winter wonderland do the rest! ❄️🛷✨

🗽 Civic Spotlight: Keeping You Informed🗽

🕯️ New York Dedicates a New Beacon of Remembrance 🗽

Governor Hochul Approves State’s First Holocaust Memorial

New York just took a powerful and heartfelt step toward remembrance — and toward fighting hate — as Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to create a permanent Holocaust Memorial at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. 🕍🕯️ In a time when antisemitism is rising nationwide, this memorial will stand as both a tribute to those who perished and a vibrant reminder of the resilience of survivors. It will also serve as an educational space where students, visitors, and future generations can learn about the Holocaust and the urgent need to challenge intolerance in all its forms.

Under the new law (S5784/A7614), the Office of General Services will design and establish this meaningful site alongside the Plaza’s other iconic memorials. Governor Hochul summed it up best: New York has zero tolerance for hate — and this memorial reaffirms a commitment to ensuring a safer, more inclusive, and more compassionate future for all. ✡️
